Food for the Needy

This is how we help to stamp out hunger in our own community!   Buy an extra can or two each time you shop and bring them to church.  You and your family can bring your cans and put them in the basket in the entry. If you forget, please feel free to donate toward the purchase of needed foods.

It's this Sunday! We donated 56lbs of food in April.    With the high costs of fuel more people are needing help with food. With God’s help we can increase this for May.

CLC Bowling Challenge Results!

In January Christ Lutheran Church challenged Fairbanks Lutheran church

  • to have the highest bowling score,
  • to have the most bowlers,
  • and to raise the most money

for Big Brothers Big Sisters at Bowl for Kid’s Sake 2008. Here are the results of the challenge.

It was a closely contested race this year as Fairbanks Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church both fielded several teams on Sunday, February 17th at Arctic Bowl.  CLC bowlers included Karen Johnson, Brigitta Lease, Angie Hage, Trish Johnston, Chris Wheat, Lorren Johnston, Galen Johnson, Steve Hage, Pastor Susan, Intern Pastor Holly, and two Little Sisters.  Jim Phillips also gathered pledges.

We gave it our best shot—CLC Intern Pastor Holly Slater even bowled her first ever turkey, but FLC had the highest bowling score thanks to the efforts of FLC member Phil Heine.

FLC also fielded more bowlers with a total of 13 people bowling while Christ Lutheran Church only had 12 bowlers.

CLC won one of the challenges. Christ Lutheran Church raised more money for Big Brothers Big Sisters with a total of $1,901 of pledges and donations to FLC’s total of $1,120.

So, it looks like FLC beat us on two out of three of the challenges. Thank you to all of the Christ Lutheran Church members who bowled and supported Big Brothers Big Sisters this year.  Together we raised over $3,000—go Lutherans! I hope that you all had as much fun bowling as I did!

Annual Dessert Auction - Success!

A huge thank you to all who participated in the dessert auction.  We raised $1500 and in addition received $650 matching funds from Thrivent.  Luckily there was no pie throwing in the midst of intense bidding.  The cooks behind the auction did a wonderful job, and those auctioning, lively to say the least.  And who knew that Tom Benjamin was an auctioneer?  Thanks so much, we should have enough funding to send people out into villages to experience and share the good news of Christ!
